All Astro Bot games in order

Astro Bot has grown to become PlayStation’s de-facto mascot since its initial debut in The Playroom for the PlayStation 4 console, way back in 2013. This lovable android has had a total of 5 games surrounding it, ranging from The Playroom to the recently released standalone Astro Bot game for the PlayStation 5.

The playing order of the Astro Bot games can be found listed below – sorted according to their release year.

Astro Bot games in order of release

1) The Playroom

The Playroom is the first of the Astro Bot games

The Playroom was released in 2013 as part of a technical showcase for the PlayStation 4 console. Developed by Team Asobi, this was a free game that took advantage of the PS4’s augmented reality capabilities, mandating the use of the rather curious PlayStation Camera accessory.

The game has since been discontinued, with no mentions of a remaster or return on modern platforms, which is quite disheartening.

2) The Playroom VR

The Playroom VR

The Playroom VR is a direct sequel to The Playroom, focused around showcasing the capabilities of the PlayStation VR (PSVR) accessory. Team Asobi went all out with this sequel, forging new game modes and a rather amusing campaign which is quite similar to the modern Astro Bot games.

This free game also featured co-op modes, and is still available for purchase on PS4 and PS5 platforms.

3) Astro Bot Rescue Mission

Astro Bot Rescue Mission

Designed as a sequel to The Playroom VR, Astro Bot Rescue Mission was built from the ground up for the PSVR headset. The game takes full advantage of the hardware, offering an unparalleled sense of immersion and interactivity – coupled with a rather meaty campaign.

This was also the first Astro Bot game to be sold as a standalone title, instead of being bundled for free.

4) Astro’s Playroom

Astro's Playroom

Astro’s Playroom was the debut title for the PlayStation 5, coming pre-installed on most systems. Designed as a 3D platformer, Astro Bot contains quite a few easter eggs showcasing the best of PlayStation’s legacy thus far.

The game was built as a showcase for both the PlayStation 5 as well as its DualSense controller – showcasing its features in a rather creative way.

5) Astro Bot

Astro Bot

Astro Bot is the newest entry in the franchise, being sold as a separate game of its own. The title was built from the ground up as a standalone game, complete with a generous runtime of somewhere between 12-18 hours and tons of fun gameplay mechanics to keep players engaged.

The game has garnered a lot of attention since its launch, bringing a treasure trove of easter eggs and references to PlayStation classics.

Overall, Astro Bot feels like a gorgeous nostalgia trip that more than earns its recommendation for Game of the Year.
