Bloober Team’s remake of the cult horror classic, Silent Hill 2 is finally out – bringing with it marked new improvements such as updated gameplay sections and of course, visuals.
The Silent Hill 2 remake is available for the PC, and is quite graphically demanding on account of it being an Unreal Engine 5 title. Unfortunately, the game’s optimization doesn’t help either – with the occasional stutter and frame drop here and there which mandates some degree of tweaking.
As such, a list of the best Silent Hill 2 remake PC settings will be detailed below, taking into account a 1080p image with a target of 60 frames per second.
Optimized Silent Hill 2 PC settings
Display
- Screen Mode: Fullscreen
- Resolution: 1920×1080; change to your monitor’s native resolution
- HDR: Can be left enabled if you possess an HDR-capable monitor
- Raytracing: Off; always keep disabled
- Frame Rate Cap: Unlimited; keep uncapped
- Dynamic Resolution: Off; we will be adjusting resolutions with alternative upscalers instead
- VSync: Off; always keep this disabled
- Panini Projection: Enabled – only if you possess an ultrawide monitor, otherwise disabled by default
- Supersampling: FSR 3.0/DLSS; DLSS is exclusive to Nvidia RTX GPUs only
- FSR 3.0 Preset: Performance; can be dropped to Ultra Performance or increased to Balanced if so required
- Renderer Quality Preset: Custom; we will be using our own presets below

Advanced Quality Settings
- Anti-Aliasing: None; best to keep disabled
- Resolution Scalability: 75%
- Shadows Quality: Low; any higher and we lose a lot more FPS
- Textures Quality: Medium; can be increased to High if you have 8+ GB of VRAM
- Shaders Quality: Low
- Effects Quality: Low
- Separate Translucency: Off; slight difference in visual fidelity
- Lens Flares: On
- Global Motion Blur: User preference; best to keep disabled in most cases
- SSAO: Off; keep disabled to boost performance
- SSR: Off
- SSS Quality: Low
- Image Sharpening: Sharpen High
The combination of settings above should allow for a smooth 60+ frames per second at 1080p and 1440p resolutions.
How to enable Frame Generation in the Silent Hill 2 remake
It is also a good idea to enable Frame Generation to boost performance. Frame Generation is otherwise disabled in the current build of Silent Hill 2, but can be enabled using the following workaround:
- Boot up your PC and fire up the File Explorer.
- Head to Local Disk (C:) > Users > (your user name here) > AppData > Local > SilentHill2 > Saved > Config > Windows from the Explorer.
- Edit the Engine.ini file within notepad.
- Scroll down to the end of the file.
- Add in [SystemSettings] to the bottom
- Underneath the previous entry, add in r.FidelityFX.FI.Enabled=1
- Save the file and exit.
You should now have Frame Generation enabled by default once the FSR 3.0 Supersampling option is enabled.
While Silent Hill 2 remake has a ton of configuration options on PC (including ultrawide support with uncapped frame rates), it has periodic, major performance issues that can affect your overall gameplay experience.
