Best Metaphor ReFantazio ROG Ally settings

The ASUS ROG Ally is capable of playing multiple AAA games with relative ease thanks to the powerful AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU housed within it – including Metaphor ReFantazio.

ReFantazio isn’t a very demanding title, but tweaking its many graphical options does allow for a more consistent level of performance, making it quite playable on handheld devices.

These ideal Metaphor ReFantazio settings for the ROG Ally will be detailed below, targeting a 60 FPS output with a focus on battery life.

Optimized Metaphor ReFantazio ROG Ally settings

In-game settings

Display Settings

  • Resolution: 1600×900; 1080p can also be used for a crisper image at the cost of higher TDP
  • Screen Mode: Fullscreen; can be toggled to Borderless
  • Monitor: 1 by default; leave as is
  • V-Sync: Off; always keep this disabled

Graphics Settings

  • Screen Brightness: Adjust to your liking, or leave at its default value
  • Graphics Quality: Custom; we will not be using the predefined presets here
  • Rendering Scale: 75%
  • Ambient Occlusion: Off; currently bugged and absolutely wrecks performance when enabled
  • Texture Quality: Normal; can be bumped up to High with 8 GB of VRAM
  • Frame Rate Limit: 60 FPS; best to leave this capped in order to avoid excess battery drain, can be changed to Uncapped when using the 30 W Turbo preset

ROG Ally specific settings

ROG Ally
  • Operating Mode: Manual (20 W)
  • Control Mode: Gamepad
  • AMD RSR: Off
  • CPU Boost: Disabled
  • Resolution: Keep this unchanged from 1080p
  • AMD RIS: On
  • FPS Limiter: Disable to take advantage of VRR
  • AFMF: Disabled; can be enabled if so desired to obtain a pseudo boost in frame rates
  • Recommended VRAM: 6 – 8 GB

Expect 1-2 hours of battery life while playing the game on the ROG Ally with the aforementioned presets and TDP values. Those with the newer, upgraded ROG Ally X can expect close to 4 hours of battery life instead.
