All you need to know about the M4 iMac

M4 iMac

As announced within an official newsroom post, the iMac has been refreshed with the M4 SoC, and is currently available to pre order via the official Apple Store(s) and certain retailers.

The key features of the M4 variant include the following:

  • A total of seven colors to choose from
  • The M4 SoC which powers the device
  • A 24-inch 4.5K Retina capable IPS display; with the option of a nano texture glass finish
  • A 12 megapixel Center Stage capable webcam with Desk View
  • Four USB-C ports for connectivity; all 4 ports are capable of Thunderbolt 4 – but only when picking the ‘upgraded’ M4 chip with the 10 core CPU and 10 core GPU
  • 16 GB unified memory in the base models; a massive step up from the 8 GB base in M3 and older generations

The addition of the M4 chip and boost to 16 GB unified memory are perhaps the biggest additions to the iMac, and should allow for a massive bump in performance. As per Apple, the M4 is approximately twice as fast as the first generation Apple Silicon chips (M1), and should prove to be a worthwhile upgrade for existing users.

An additional feature that is not limited to the iMac includes the stable release of Apple Intelligence (with macOS Sequoia 15.1 – available right now) which should receive its ChatGPT integration sometime in December, this year.

The M4 iMacs will be available starting November 8, 2024 and start from $1299 for the 16/256 version.
