As you spend more time completing the more difficult challenges in The First Descendant, you will come across Rare and Ultimate Reactors which will grant you skill bonuses if you have a specific weapon equipped or mounted on your character.
This equip and mounting system can be a bit complicated to grasp for those who are just starting out. The shooter does not exactly do a great job at explaining some of the features, and there will be many who will be missing out on optimizing their DPS if they are not familiar with these systems.
The guide below will go over everything you will need to know about the Ultimate Reactor weapon mounting system in The First Descendant.
What is weapon mounting for Ultimate Reactors in The First Descendant?

As you start clearing out the harder challenges you will receive Ultimate Reactors which will as you to meet an “Optimization Condition” to receive a significant damage boost on your skills.
These conditions will usually ask you to have a particular weapon or weapon type to be equipped or mounted on your character. If the condition states that you need to have the Nazeistra’s Devotion mounted, it means that you will need to have the Descendant that you are using hold that weapon in their hands.
160% boost to skill will only be applied to the Descendant once they are actively carrying the hand cannon.
How does weapon mounting differ from weapon equip in The First Descendant
The weapon equip condition for Reactors just needs you to have the particular weapon or the weapon type in either one of the three weapon slots. You do not need to actively carry or use the armament.
It’s much more lenient than weapon mounting as you will always have that skill damage bonus as long as you meet the condition.
Will switching weapons revert skill stats for Reactors with weapon mount conditions?
Yes! If you are switching weapons even mid-encounter the skill boost that you have received from the Reactor will be lost. The 160% boost will only be applied to your Descendant’s skill when you actively have the weapon equipped and in use.
The system might feel restrictive at first but it makes way for making some of the best DPS builds for Descendants who rely on skill damage.
How to best use Ultimate Reactors with weapon mount conditions

Ultimate Reactors that come with the weapon mount conditions are best used on Descendants who prioritize using skills as their main sources of DPS. For example, the ideal Bunny build focuses on having 100% uptime on her 3rd skill, Lightning Emission.
You will be able to maximize the damage of this skill ability by equipping a Reactor with Tingling Singularity which asks for something like a Thunder Cage mounting for a 160% skill boost.
Similarly, Valby too is another Descendant that will benefit the most from Reactors with weapon mount conditions. This is because you want to prioritize the DoT effect on her abilities by making as many puddles as possible.
On the flip side, Descendants like Enzo do not need Reactors that enhance skill damage. He plays the role of a support, and as long as you are optimizing his cooldown reductions you will be able to have a significant impact with him.
