Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance complete Mitama guide: How to farm, types, and more

Mitamas are a rare enemy type that you will encounter and farm in Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance. They look like teardrops and come in four different colors and four different facial expressions.

Mitamas have a randomized weakness every time you encounter one. However, the items they drop are specific to their color, and you will also gain a lot of XP for defeating them.

Farming Mitamas is a great way of having an easier time in Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance. The items you get from them will not only help you level up fast but let you acquire a lot of Macca as well.

Here is a guide on everything you need to know about Mitamas in Shin Megami Tensei 5.

How to find Mitamas in Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance

Mitama Dance of EXP SMT5 Vengeance DLC

In the base Shin Megami Tensei 5 you will be able to encounter Mitamas out in the wild and you will need to hit them to start the encounter. Alternatively, you can even find one by interacting with the points of interest that your quest navigator leads you to.

In the early game, Amanozako will be your navigator and they will lead you to special spots. Interacting with them might either get you valuable items, Macca, a demon ambush, or an encounter with a Mitama.

With Vengeance, you will automatically get your hands on the three SMT5 DLC packs which let you increase the spawn rate of Mitamas.

In the main menu, under General Options, you will find an option to tweak the Mitama spawn rate and which particular Mitama you want to encounter more. This will help you target farm a particular resource.

How to farm Mitamas in Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance

Now that you have increased the spawn rate of Mitamas in the RPG, you will need to take them down. Once the encounter begins, irrespective of the Mitama-type that you are farming, the weakness that they have will be randomized. They will also block all the remaining damage types except Almighty.

Here are a few ways of consistently taking down Mitama’s in Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance:

1) Use a Spyglass

Saki Mitama SMT 5 Vengeance

Always stock up on Spy Glass in the game. Not only will the item help you against bosses, but even make farming Mitama significantly easier. Spy Glass can be bought from Gustave at the Cadaver’s Hollow for 100 Macca each.

When you start a fight with a Mitama, make Nahobino use the Spy Glass on it. The item will reveal its weakness and you will need to keep passing turns to the demon in your party who has that damage type.

So make sure your Nahobino and his active party have all the following damage types:

  • Thunder
  • Force
  • Ice
  • Fire
  • Dark
  • Light

If you don’t have a particular damage type in the party, you can always use a shard or a gem. Mitamas usually have very low HP, and you can take them out with one hit as long as you are hitting their weakness.

2) Use Almighty skills

Another alternate way of taking out Mitama’s will be to use Almighty skills. Mitamas are neutral to the Almighty attack type, however, you will need more than a single hit to take them out if you are not planning to exploit their weakness.

In the early game, you will get to recruit Pretas. Pretas unlock the Almighty skill Life Drain after you level them up a bit, and on the easiest difficulty, they will one-shot any Mitama.

3) Using abilities with the Pierce effect

As you get further in the narrative and fuze more powerful demons, you will be able to unlock skills that have pierce. Abilities with the pierce property ignore all enemy resistances when dealing damage.

So even if a Mitama is immune to Force damage if the Force ability has the pierce property, they will deal full damage to the Mitama.

  • Mouse Mummy: sold for 4000 Macca

Ara Mitama (Red)

From the settings page, you will get to increase the spawn of a particular Mitama type if you are looking to target farm a particular resource.

Can you recruit Mitamas in Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance?

Much like with Shin Megami Tensei 5, you will not be able to recruit Mitamas in Vengeance. When you approach them with the “Talk” option, they will simply not respond.

Hence, they are considered a special enemy type that you farm to make progression easier in Atlus‘ RPG.
