Minecraft is over 16 years old at this point, and remains just as popular as when it was initially released, largely thanks to the retention of its core gameplay and simultaneous addition of small but meaningful content updates.
2025’s update brought with it two new Pig variants, and a set of upcoming updates might make it even more immersive than ever – thanks to the addition of ambient updates to the game.
You can find more about the ambient update in Minecraft below, detailing its features and more.
New ambient additions for Minecraft in 2025
Ambient features have been added to Minecraft via a recent update, aiming to make the world feel even more immersive than before.
Most notable of these additions, is the inclusion of falling leaves from trees, which were not visible prior. Fallen leaves can accumulate into Leaf Litter, which has a few uses alongside producing a satisfying crunchy sound while walking upon them.
Other minor but still noteworthy additions include white and yellow ‘Wildflowers’ which grow within meadows and birch forests. These can be utilized to make dyes, and can be grown faster using bonemeal.
Additional updates and tweaks added to Minecraft this year

While the ambient additions are quite exciting in of themselves, Mojang has also graced us with multiple additions to the base games, some of which include:
- New Pigs: 3 new Pigs have been added, based on the climate they spawn in (Warm, Cold and Temperate Pigs).
- Leaf particles can spawn from Leaves Blocks.
- Wildflowers have been added to the game.
- New crafting recipes, and miscellaneous other changes.
- Certain other technical changes and command updates.
- Bug fixes, as per the usual – expected with every major update.
You can find the full patch notes detailed in the section below. Hopefully, this isn’t the end of whatever Mojang has planned for 2025, and we should see a lot more exciting updates soon.
