Monster Hunter Wilds complete multiplayer guide- Co-op, Cross-play, Crosssave, and more

The Monster Hunter Wilds multiplayer lobby system will let you have a much easier time dealing with some of the most difficult content in the RPG with either friends or other players on the server.

However, for those new to the franchise, the multiplayer system can seem a bit overwhelming at first. So if you are looking to explore the open world with friends then the guide below will help you out.

All Lobby Types in Monster Hunter Wilds multiplayer

Before you start enjoying the various multiplayer features in Monster Hunter Wilds, you will first need to understand the various online lobbies that are available:

Lobby SearchWith Lobby Search you will be able to look for specific lobbies based on the following filters:

Private LobbyYou will be able to create a private lobby which players can only join through the Lobby ID Search. However, Private Lobbies will allow fewer max members than general lobbies.
Online SingleplayerYou join the game through online mode without entering a lobby.

When starting the game, you will be asked to choose from one of the lobby settings.

How to play Monster Hunter Wilds with friends (Co-op guide)

There are three ways by which you will be able to group up with your friends in Monster Hunter Wilds:

1) Invite them using the Lobby ID

You have your friend join your lobby by using the Lobby ID feature. You can find your Lobby ID by making your way to the Player List and then checking the right side of the screen. The ID will be a string of 8 characters that is unique to that lobby.

Once you find the Lobby ID< share it with your friend and they can then use it to do a Lobby ID Search from the main menu. Upon accurately inputting the Lobby ID they will be able to join your server.

2) Add friends as your Hunter Friends

If you and your friend are in the same lobby, you will be able to search for them in the Lobby’s Player List. Once you select their names, you will get the option to send them a Friend Request. Once they accept your request, they will then show up under the Hunter Friends list.

When a player becomes your Hunter Friend you will be able to find them in the Hunter Friend Search option in the main title screen. From here you can either directly join their lobby or they can join yours.

3) Invite a friend from your platform list to your lobby

There is a way to invite friends who are added to your platform’s communication list directly into the lobby that you are in. To do this you will need to go to the “Communications” option and select the option “Invite a Friend”. The option that you get after will depend on the platform you are in:

  • Steam: You will get the option to choose a friend to invite. They will only get the invite if they are online and you can only invite one player at a time.
  • Xbox S/X: You can invite players after you “Find Someone” or “Choose From a Club”. Selecting their name will give you the option to invite them to your party.
  • PS5: PS5 users will have the option to “Select Players” from a list or “Share Link”. Picking the former will let you select the person you want to invite and then press an additional button to send the invitation. For the latter, you will get a QR code which you will need to scan and then share with your friend.

Note: For any of these platform-exclusive options to work, your friend needs to have purchased a copy of Monster Hunter Wilds on that platform.

How to start a hunt with friends in Monster Hunter Wilds

Once you and your friends are in the same lobby, you will be able to take on hunts together. To do this, either you or your friend will need to post a quest. The other person will then need to look for it in the Quest Counter or by just interacting with Alma.

Once you are on the quest board you will need to select the “Lobby Member” quest, and then look for the quest that your friend has posted, or vice versa.

The Link Party system is a new feature in Monster Hunter which is making its way to the franchise with Wilds. The system will allow 4 players to group up together to go on consecutive quests together.

Moreover, when a member of a Link Party puts up a quest on the board, the other members will immediately be notified of it. Now the other members can either directly join this quest or do it through the Link Member Quests tab from the counter.

Link Party members will also be able to enjoy a text and voice chat that is exclusive to them. There will also be a unique Environment Link system along with this which will let one member invite others into their open-world environment to explore a region together.

Additionally, Link Party members will also have the choice to leave the Environment Link whenever they want and even join a quest that is posted by another player in the lobby even if they are not a part of the link.

How many players can join a lobby and a hunt in Monster Hunter Wilds?

A maximum of 100 players can join an online lobby in Monster Hunter Wilds. However, that number will go down significantly if you are in a private lobby.

When it comes to a quest, only a maximum of 4 players can participate in a hunt. You can change the max number of players that can join a hunt when you are posting the quest. Moreover, you can even set a password so that only your friends can join the quest.

How to play Monster Hunter Wilds online

Before you can play the game with a friend, you will first need to check if you have subscribed to Game Pass or PS Plus if you are on any one of the consoles.

You will not be able to join any of the lobbies if you are not a part of your platforms subscriptions model. Here are the current prices for each

PS5 players require a PlayStation Plus subscription while Xbox players require a subscription to Xbox Game Pass. You cannot use the game’s online multiplayer feature unless you subscribe to this service.

For PC players, you can play online multiplayer without a subscription.

Does Monster Hunter Wilds have Crossplay, Cross-save, and Local Multiplayer?

Monster Hunter Wilds has online multiplayer that supports crossplay across all three platforms: PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S, however, it does not have cross-save and you will not be able to carry over your saves from one platform to the next.

Moreover, local multiplayer is not possible in Wilds. The last time this feature was available in the franchise was in the Switch version of Monster Hunter Rise.

Other Multiplayer Features in Monster Hunter Wilds

Here are some other multiplayer features that you can enjoy in Monster Hunter Wilds:

1) A mute feature for Spammers

Wlds has an anti-spam feature that you will be able to use to mute players who spam a lot of emotes and messages. This can help decrease the amount of toxicity that some bring to a hunt.

2) Updated Support Hunter system

When you are taking on a quest with Support Hunters these NPCs will ignore wounds that you create on monsters. They will only break the wounds once they see that you have been ignoring these weak points for some time.

Moreover, in a future update you will be able to choose which Support Huner you can bring along in a quest.
