Marvel Rivals Competitive Mode and ranking system explained

Marvel Rivals Season 0 is right around the corner, and like Fortnite, it has a detailed ranking system that lets you play with equally skilled players.

Although the gameplay in ranked modes is usually a lot sweatier, it hands out plenty of rewards when seasons end and ensures that you get the right environment to better yourself.

So, here’s everything to know about the Competitive Mode and ranking system in Marvel Rivals.

How to unlock Competitive in Marvel Rivals and rank up

You must be level 5 or higher to play Competitive in Marvel Rivals. To be fair, reaching this level is quite easy and it should not take you more than a couple of games.

Players who’ve had access to the betas are likely to be already above level 5 when Season 0 arrives officially.

All Competitive Ranks in Marvel Rivals

Marvel Rivals, in Season 0, will have the following ranks:

  • Bronze (1-3)
  • Silver (1-3)
  • Gold (1-3)
  • Platinum (1-3)
  • Diamond (1-3)
  • Grandmaster (1-3)
  • Eternity (No divisions)
  • One Above All (No divisions)

All ranks from Bronze to Grandmaster have three divisions. However, in Eternity and One Above All, your position is largely determined by your Rank Points and inactivity will be penalized.

After you unlock Competitive in Marvel Rivals, the game automatically places you in a rank based on your skills. It was Bronze 1 for everyone during the beta, but in Season 0, you might get a higher placement rank right away.

How does Competitive work

While playing Marvel Rivals Competitive, you’ll need to understand these mechanics:

  • Rank Points – You get Rank Points after every Competitive game in Marvel Rivals based on your performance and result. Each division in the game is separated by 100 Rank Points.
  • Chrono Shield – In case you’ve lost enough games to have 0 Rank Points, the game provides you with a Chrono Shield, protecting you from falling into the previous rank. Once they’re depleted, a loss would finally push you back in the rank ladder.
  • Cosmic Selection – Upon reaching Diamond 3, each team gets the chance to ban a hero before the match starts.
  • Rank reset – Ranks reset when a new season begins and before that, you’ll be rewarded according to your rank in the ongoing season.
  • Party restrictions – Bronze and Silver are considered one rank in Marvel Rivals. Also, you can only team up with players in the same or adjacent ranks. So, for example, if you’re Gold, you can team up with players across Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.
