League of Legends Rank Split 2 will go live with patch 14.10 and feature several improvements over the previous Split. Player rank will receive a soft reset before May 15, 2024, which is when the official patch is dropping with the new Split.
Ahead of 14.10, Riot Games has pointed out some of the major changes that players can expect this time around. However, one of the biggest highlights of the new Split will be the return of the Duo-queue in Master Rank.
League of Legends Rank Split 2 changes
In their latest dev blog update, Riot Games goes over the following major updates hitting League of Legends Rank Split 2:
1) Demotion protection between divisions has been removed
There was a demotion protection within divisions which did not allow players to fall back to a lower division if they went on a losing streak. The protection will be removed with Split 2 as the developers want players to transition freely between the divisions.
2) Players will get a chance to place higher after provisional games
Players will get a chance to get placed in higher-rank tiers after their provisional games. Riot points out that from League of Legends Rank Split 2, players might be placed as high as Diamond III after the provisional games.
This was previously Emerald I. With the new system in place, high-elo players will have a much easier time grinding their way to Master.
3) LP after demoting from tiers will depend on the player’s MMR
When players are demoted from tiers they will be placed in one of the following LP:
- 25
- 50
- 75
The LP they have after the demotion will depend on their MMR at the time of demotion compared to their rank.
4) Duo-queue for Master Rank is returning
Master Duo is coming back and most regions will be able to access it. However, the Duo-queue will not extend to Grandmaster.
