Elden Ring boss guide: How to beat Morgott the Omen King

Morgott the Omen King is one of the Demigod Bosses that you will encounter in Elden Ring. He is a mandatory encounter in the RPG. This is because you will need to defeat him to unlock the Mountaintop of the Giants and progress through the story.

Morgott is the final major boss in Leyndell, Royal Capital. He is the true identity of Margit, the Fell Omen, which is why you will find a lot of similarities in moves and abilities between the two.

However, Morgott does bring some variations to the kit and he hits much harder. He combines Fire and Holy damage together and can inflict Hemorrhage. He has more AoE spells under his belt, and some of his abilities can one-shit based on your remaining HP.

Nevertheless, he is not too difficult to take down and almost any build can do well against him. Once defeated Morgott will drop 120,000 Runes, Remembrance of the Omen King, Morgott’s Great Rune, Talisman Pouch, and access to Mountaintop of the Giants.

Morgott is the final boss you will face in Leyndell, Royal Capital. He is not optional and you will need to take him down before you are able to continue with the rest of the story. He is the self-proclaimed “Last of All Kings” who still loved the Golden Order.

This is quite surprising because both Morgott and his twin Mohg were born as Omen Royalty, which got them detained in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds. Irrespective of the harsh treatment, Morgott remained true to the Golden Order. He went as far as to protect the capital when his fellow demigods came to attack it during the War of the Shattering.

Morgott has similar moves to Margit, but there are a lot of new abilities up his sleeve. He hits much harder than the Fell Omen and combines Holy and Fire to deal elemental damage along with physical damage with his sword.

He also deals Hemorrhage and once the bar builds up, you will take a large chunk of damage. Morgott is weak to Slash attacks like Margit, and he is resistant to Holy damage. However, he is one of the easier Demigo Boss fights in FromSoftware’s RPG.

How to find Morgott in Elden Ring

Queen's Bedchamber Elden Ring

To find Margott the Omen King you will need to defeat Godfre, First Elden Lord. Once he is down from his arena balcony take the branch that takes you to the second level of the room.

From there make your way across the bridge, you will find a Black Knife assassin by an open door, run past it and you will reach the Queen’s Bedchamber Site of Grace. From here take the stairs up to the Fog Wall which leads into Margit the Fell Omen encounter.

Morgott movesets and counters in Elden Ring

Morgott does have two phases to his fight, however, there is not much difference between them apart from a few new abilities and combo chains. The second phase procs after you take him below 60% HP and he will get significantly more aggressive with his attacks.

Below is a list of all of Morgott’s abilities that you will face in Elden Ring:

Holy Swords Rain

  • Move: Morgott will conjure a golden sword in his left hand as will as additional holy swords that will hover in a circle around him and then stab at the ground. He will do this move when he reaches 80% health.
  • Counter: Has a decently long wind-up time that you can punish. So get some attacks in and dodge away. Unlocking the camera can make dodging away easier.

Sword Hammer Horizontal Swing

  • Move: Morgott produces a Holy Hammer and swings it simultaneously with is sword.
  • Counter: The sword animation comes out before the hammer, so you will need to dodge two times into him.

Horizontal Sword Slash into Overhead Hammer Slam

  • Counter: You can completely dodge the attack by standing near his left leg. You can attack him multiple times during the entire attack animation.

Cursed-Blood Slice

  • Counter: You can stick to his left to completely avoid the attack. Alternatively, you can also dodge into him as soon as he raises the sword to stab you.
Morgott Cused Blood Thrust

Multi-weapon combo

  • Move: Morgott will conjure a dagger and rapidly start striking with it and the sword. He will then switch to a holy sword, and continue the combo, finally ending it with a hammer spin and slam. This is Morgott’s final resort which he will pull out when he is below 30% health.
  • Counter: To completely avoid the combo you will need to roll behind Morgott and stick to his backside. You can get some attacks in when he is in the middle of the attack chain.

Morgott Resistance and Weaknesses in Elden Ring

Resistance:

Morgott has very high resistance to Holy damage. Apart from that he has very average resistance numbers to all status effects including Poison, Scarlet Rot, Hemorrhage, Frostbite, and Sleep. Hence, you will be able to exploit these effects one or twice (based on your build) in the entire fight.

Morgot is immune to Madness, hence the Flames of Frenzy is not going to have any effect on him. Hence, Incantation builds revolving around Flames of Frenzy will struggle quite a bit.

Weakness:

Morgott is weak to Slash damage. Hence, he will take a bit more damage from weapons like Katanas, Swords, and Daggers. He also takes a fair bit of critical damage and breaking his posture to get a Repost in, is something you can exploit.

However, 3 prairies are required to break his stance once. An easier way of breaking his poise will be to rely on heavy attacks and jumping attacks. Something like the Glintblade Phalanx spell or th Ash of War will be able to break his stand in a few hits.

How to beat Morgott the Omen King in Elden Ring

Morgott is one of the easier Demigod Bosses in Elden Ring. Irrespective of the build that you are going for, you should not be having too much trouble bringing him down. Even if you are scaling faith for Holy and Flame of Frenzy spells, you can always pivot and use other Incantations in the fight.

If you are still struggling with the encounter here are some tips and tricks that are likely to see you over the line:

General tips for beating Morgott the Omen King

  • Try sticking to Morgott’s left as you will be able to dodge through most of his attacks from there. Melee builds will especially have a much better time by sticking to his lift leg and going for some poke damage every time Morgott goes for his big combos.
  • Bring Slash weapons to the fight. Mages can get slash weapons that scale with Faith or Intelligence but deal physical damage.
  • Don’t forget to use your summons if you are struggling. One of the best Spirit Ash for the encounter will be the Mimic Tear, however, you can bring additional NPCs like Malena and the Dungeater. The NPC summon sign is right before the fog gate. You can even call in other players to help you out.
  • Try having some spells or weapons that deal Lightning damage in th second stage. Morgott fills the arena with pater in Phase 2 making Incantations like the Lightning Spear incredibly effective.

Mages will have it much easier if they use a summon to divert Morgott’s aggression. This will give them enough time to channel their spells and poke the boss from afar.

Some of the best spells to use for the fight will be Black Flame, Lightning Spear, and Night Comet.

If you are going for a bow build then you will need to make use of all the status effects arrows. As Morgott has average resistance values to them so make sure you try and inflict Frostbite, Scarlet Rot, Hemorrhage, as well as Poison in the fight.

Melee Build Tips for Morgott

Melee players can avoid most of Morgott’s damage by just sticking to his left leg and then dodging the hitbox to go behind him. The only thing to worry about will be the tail swipe, but that is a good enough trade for being able to completely avoid his combos and slam attacks.

Make sure to use slash weapons to be able to make the most of his weakness. Morgott will take more damage from Swords, Katanas, Curved Swords, and Daggers.

If you are going for a blunt weapon then try investing in jumping attacks and heavy attacks. These will break his stance, leaving him open to a Ripost. Morgott takes a fair bit of damage from a critical attack.

Additionally, try using Fire Type or Lightning Type Ash of War to deal more damage. Morgott has no negation for these two elements, so try coating your weapons with them.

Once you beat him, Morgott will drop 120,000 Runes, Remembrance of the Omen King, Morgott’s Great Rune, and a Talisman Pouch. After resting at the Grace, talk to Malenia, and you will now gain access to Mountaintop of the Giants.
