Spirit is a new resource that has made its way to Path of Exile 2. It’s primarily used to summon minions, reserve auras, and trigger gems. Spirit is part of the core combat mechanic in the RPG, but the game does a very poor job of explaining it.
Many in the community are very confused as to how this mechanic works, so if you too are looking to have a firmer understanding of it, here is a guide that will help you out.
How does Spirit work in Path of Exile 2?

As mentioned, Spirit is a system used to reserve auras and summon minions in Path of Exile 2. Mana is no longer used to reserve auras in the sequel, however, you will not have access to any Spirit at the start of the narrative.
You will be able to increase the resource as you progress through the campaign and get your hands on more boss drops and equip items that increase it.
When you trigger a meta gem on your skill bar, your character’s Spirit will automatically be reserved. This will also include auras, but they will not activate if you do not have enough Spirit for them. So as long as you have the Spirit to spare, you can equip as many meta gems and auras as you want.
However, Spirit works a bit differently when it comes to summoning revivable minions. You will first need to allocate Spirit to the skill gem by opening the skill tab. Here you will see the minion count where the DPS meter usually is, and you will notice it right next to the gem’s level.
Clicking on the plus icon will summon more minions at the cost of more Spirit. You can min-max it further by leveling your minion gem as it will then reduce the Spirit reservations of your summons.
How to increase Spirit in PoE 2
To increase your Spirit in Path of Exile 2, here is what you will need to do:
1) Equip a Sceptre in your off-hand
Equipping a Sceptre in your off-hand will be the best way of increasing your character’s Spirit in the early game. It will grant a direct +100 Spirit and will complement affixes with “+Spirit” rolls allowing you to maximize your Spirit capacity even more.
2) Taking out optional bosses
Certain optional bosses will often drop a consumable when defeated. These consumables, when used, will grant your character a permanent stat boost in Path of Exile 2. Depending on your luck, RnG and favor you and you get a consumable that increases Spirit capacity by a small amount.
You will find optional bosses on the world map highlighted by nodes with a plus icon beside them. The first time you take them out will guarantee a consumable drop.
3) Look for gear with “+Spirit” affixes
Keep an eye out for gear that drops with the “+Spirit” affix. If you are serious about improving the capacity, then make sure you don’t accidentally salvage an item that has a good Spirit roll.

4) Summoners should play as Infernalist
Summoners need the highest amount of Spirit reserves in Path of Exile 2. This is why, they are best played as an Infernalist which is a Witch Ascendancy class. Infernalists have a node called “Beidat’s Will” which allows them to increase your character’s Spirit with every 25 maximum Life.
This will reserve a portion of your max Life and boost your max Spirit letting you maximize the number of summons that you can pull off.
